Intellivision Amico is the new video game console aimed at all members of the family that takes a small taste of the past and a giant bite from the future. Yes, it’s a reboot of my personal favorite home video game console of all time, Intellivision by Mattel from 1979.

But Intellivision Amico will incorporate not only a brand new console design with modern features you’d expect but will include both revisions of classic Intellivision games and many new games too.

Intellivision Amico is expected to retail for $249 including 6 games and 2 controllers. The console is available in Glacier White, Graphite Black, Vintage Woodgrain, Galaxy Purple and GTO Red. Dozens of additional games will be released over time and are expected to cost $2.99 – $9.99 each.

Intellivision Amico Price

Mattel’s Intellivision first retailed for $299 in 1979 upon launch. Each video game cartridge cost $20 – $30 although over time and as other manufacturers entered the market, you could often find games in discount bins and for lower prices.

How much does Amico cost when it’s released in April 2021?

Intellivision Amico is expected to retail for around $249 for the console itself and $279 for the VIP Vintage Woodgrain edition. The console will come bundled with 6 games including Skiing, Astrosmash, Shark! Shark!, Cornhole, and Farkle. Each additional game will retail for a very reasonable $2.99 – $9.99.

When you see what you get with the new Amico console and games, you’ll see the very reasonable price points offered for both the console and games.

Intellivision Amico Games

Amico is expected to dip into its past by modernizing some Intellivision classics while introducing mostly new games as well. A total of over 85 games are currently planned, broken down as follows:

  • 20% updated and re-imagined versions of classic video games like Astrosmash, Snafoo (Snafu) and Shark! Shark!
  • 20% original new games like Farkle.
  • 20% sports and recreation games like Skiing and Darts.
  • 20% board/dice/card/word/puzzle games/strategy games like Archon and Brain Duel.
  • 20% educational games like Sesame Street Math Fun and Care Bears.

All games are aimed at family play with no swearing or bloody violence and all will enable single and multi-player functionality with up to 8 players allowed. Every game will be rated E or E10+.

While most games will be digital versions available in the online store, some limited edition physical versions will also be made. Most games will be designed as 2D or 2D using 3D modeling.
